A death doula (also called an end-of-life doula or death midwife) is a trained, non-medical professional who provides holistic emotional, spiritual, and practical support to individuals nearing the end of life and their loved ones.
Much like a birth doula supports the beginning of life, a death doula supports the final stages of life.

- Before Death: They help with legacy projects, outline end-of-life wishes, explain the physiological process of dying, and help resolve fears or emotional loose ends.
- During the Dying Process: They provide a calming presence, assist primary caregivers, and help create a peaceful, meaningful environment at the bedside.
- After Death: They assist grieving families with early-stage bereavement support, processing the loss, and navigating funeral or memorial planning.
